When installing the self-aligning roller bearings, how should the heating temperature be controlled?

When installing self-aligning roller bearings, precise control of the heating temperature is a crucial step to ensure installation quality and the lifespan of the bearings. The following are the core points, operational logic, and precautions for controlling the heating temperature, which will help you execute the process in a standardized manner:
1. Core control standards for heating temperature
1. Scientific basis for temperature range
Common steel bearings (such as GCr15 bearing steel): The heating temperature is typically controlled at 80℃ to 120℃.
▶ Reason: The thermal expansion coefficient of steel is approximately 11×10⁻⁶/℃. When the temperature rises to 100℃, the inner diameter of the bearing inner ring expands by approximately 0.1mm (taking a 100mm bore as an example), which is sufficient for the easy installation of interference fit and does not cause steel annealing (annealing temperature of bearing steel ≥ 180℃).
Special material bearings (such as stainless steel, high-temperature alloys): Adjustments should be made according to the material manual, generally not exceeding 100℃ to avoid changes in material properties.
2. Strict limitation of the upper temperature limit
It is strictly prohibited to exceed 120℃:
▶ Risk 1: Degradation of bearing lubricating grease (ordinary lithium-based grease has a drop point of about 180℃, but above 120℃ will accelerate oxidation, leading to lubrication failure);
▶ Risk 2: Deformation of cage (steel cage in 120℃ above strength decreases, plastic cage may soften);
▶ Risk 3: Abnormal changes in internal clearance of the bearing, affecting operational accuracy.
