What are the precautions for the maintenance and care of self-aligning roller bearings?
The maintenance and care of self-aligning roller bearings are crucial for extending their service life and ensuring the stable operation of the equipment. The following are the key points to note during the maintenance process, classified and explained by different stages:
I. Precautions during the Installation Stage
Installation environment and cleaning
Keep the installation site clean to prevent dust, metal debris and other impurities from entering the bearing. If necessary, wipe the installation surface with a lint-free cloth or a special cleaner.
Before installing the bearing, it is necessary to check the surface roughness, dimensional tolerance and positional tolerance (such as roundness and cylindricity) of the journal and seat hole to ensure they meet the design requirements.
2. Installation tools and methods
It is strictly prohibited to directly strike the inner and outer rings of the bearing with a hammer. Special pressure sleeves, hydraulic presses or heating methods (the temperature during hot installation should not exceed 120℃) should be used for installation to prevent deformation of the bearing or damage to the raceways.
When installing the inner ring, the force should act on the end face of the inner ring. When installing the outer ring, the force should be applied to the end face of the outer ring to ensure uniform force distribution.
3. Centering and coaxiality
Although self-aligning roller bearings have self-aligning function, excessive deviation (such as shaft bending or poor coaxiality of the seat hole) will cause uneven load distribution and accelerate wear. When installing, the coaxiality of the shaft and the seat hole should be calibrated through tools such as a dial indicator (usually the allowable deviation is ≤0.05mm).
4. Coordination and clearance adjustment
Control the interference fit (when there is an interference fit) or the clearance (when there is a clearance fit) as per the design requirements. Excessive interference may cause the inner ring to expand and the clearance to decrease, while insufficient interference is prone to slippage and wear.
After installation, check the bearing clearance to ensure it meets the standards (for example, C3 clearance is suitable for high-temperature or high-speed working conditions), and adjust it through gaskets or pre-tightening devices if necessary.
